AN ADHD and Ritalin expert believes that Australian kids are overdiagnosed and drugged, but the syndrome is very real and sufferers need help to properly function at school and later in life.
Hundreds of Daily Telegraph Online readers flocked to our live blog with ADHD and Ritalin expert Glynis Howard today.
Ms Howard is National Medical Services Manager with Dore Australia, which offer alternative treatment to medication for ADHD sufferers.
Ms Howard agreed that Ritalin is overprescribed in Australia as parent and doctors look for quick fix solution to serious medical problems.
"I think that society has a 'supermarket mentality' to quick fix problems. The solution has been to turn to drugs to solve any issue placed before us," Ms Howard said.
"I am hoping that with the inquiry into prescription of these medications by the government, there will be more appropriate diagnosis treatment and support for these families," she said.
Really makes you wonder about the medical treatments we are getting in today's world.
